A 2004 study was made and published in the Journal Pediatrics that involved curing 133 kids who are infested with head lice with the popular skin care product Cetaphil. They coated the hair with Cetaphil, combed it, performed blow drying until it stiffens and they shampooed it after eight long hours have passed.
The study said that there is 95 percent success rate of the alternative cure for lice if done about once a week for three consecutive weeks. According to the article, it creates the concept of a helmet head that would trapped all the lice and eventually eradicate them once you shampoo. With Cetaphil being an extremely mild skin care product, it is not been reported causing any alarming side effects.
